Margaret Atwood was born in November 1939. She has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize on three previous occasions - with The Handmaid's Tale (1986), Cat's Eye (1989) and Alias Grace (1996). She is the author of more than thirty books of fiction, poetry, and critical essays. She has won many awards throughout the world and her work been translated into thirty-three languages. The Blind Assassin is her tenth novel. Margaret Atwood lives in Toronto.
